چکیده

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This paper presents an algorithm that computes Taylor series expansions of order k=2, 3, 4 of the policy function of non-linear rational expectations models. Approximations of order 2 k ≥ may be markedly more accurate than linear approximations (k=1) if the variability of the exogenous shocks is high and/or the model exhibits strong curvature. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Testing for Stochastic Non- Linearity in the Rational Expectations Permanent Income Hypothesis

The Rational Expectations Permanent Income Hypothesis implies that consumption follows a martingale. However, most empirical tests have rejected the hypothesis. Those empirical tests are based on linear models. If the data generating process is non-linear, conventional tests may not assess some of the randomness properly. As a result, inference based on conventional tests of linear models can b...

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Bending of Straight Beams Using hp-Spectral Approximations

Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed using traditional finite element interpolations (i.e., Hermite cubic or equi-spaced Lagrange functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, total rotation φ and/or shear strain γxz, or in the integral form u...

Presentation and Solving Non-Linear Quad-Level Programming Problem Utilizing a Heuristic Approach Based on Taylor Theorem

The multi-level programming problems are attractive for many researchers because of their application in several areas such as economic, traffic, finance, management, transportation, information technology, engineering and so on. It has been proven that even the general bi-level programming problem is an NP-hard problem, so the multi-level problems are practical and complicated problems therefo...

State-Dependent Probability Distributions in Non Linear Rational Expectations Models∗

In this paper, we solve a large class of non-linear rational expectations models with regime switching, i.e. recurring shifts in parameters. The regime-switches and the shocks may follow state-dependent probability distributions. First, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique stable equilibrium using a perturbation approach. Then, we provide Taylor expansions of the solut...

Rational-Harmonic Balancing Approach to Nonlinear Phenomena Governed by Pendulum-Like Differential Equations

This paper presents a new approach for solving accurate approximate analytical solutions for nonlinear phenomena governed by pendulum-like differential equations. The new approach couples Taylor series expansion with rational harmonic balancing. An approximate rational solution depending on a small parameter is considered. After substituting the approximate solution into the governing different...
